There were three more articles about Mexico in the US press.
First, The Wall Street Journal has a wonderful editorial Mexican Drama----
A victory for Calderón, and democracy:
"So the conclusion of the seven-judge tribunal ought to be a moment of pride for Mexicans. It is a sign of political maturity that even such a close election can be fairly adjudicated. The tribunal had sponsored partial recounts in contested precincts, but in the end reduced Mr. Calderon's victory margin by only a few thousand votes. The result confirms the election-day judgment of foreign observers, who called the vote one of the cleanest they'd seen. Some one million Mexicans had voluntarily manned polling places on election day."
Do you understand now why the conservative WSJ is my favorite editorial page?
Second, our friends at The NY Times gave us A Way to Peace in Mexico
By JORGE G. CASTAÑEDA:
"Mr. Calderón could start with an idea that is already floating around. He could propose allowing for the re-election of members of Congress, mayors and the president himself."
Later on, Castaneda suggests that we should send Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton to persuade LO to give up his tent. It may work!
Third, In Mexico, A Repeat of History? by one of my favorite Cuban writers, Carlos Alberto Montaner. This article has a lot of historical analogies. Frankly, I don't know enough about Mexican history to understand all of these comparisons between the present and the past.
In conclusion, Mexico has had too much attention lately. Our Mexican friends need a little "private time" so that they can get back to more mundane things, such as creating jobs and attracting more foreign investment!

Have a feeling the odds now stand at something like 20-1, that LO is going to go out like a lion, and Mexico is going to go up in smoke. But... there's always the slim chance that LO will go up in smoke. He seems to be headed in that direction already. Let us pray!
